After Ernest Annis had died in World War 1, his widow, Mrs Annis, married Joseph Scales, who had come to Dean to work for Ben Measures at Dean Grange Farm.
The wedding was in Dean Church on Christmas Eve, 1918, the vicar Walter Furneaux officiating. Joseph Scales, bachelor, aged 35, married Emily Rose Annis (widow, age 27). His rank was given as Private, Labour Corps, and both gave their residence as Upper Dean. The fathers names were Joseph Scales, Gas Works, and Alfred William Rowlett, Mason. Witnesses were Ellis John Cade and Deborah Cade.
