"In the spring of 1863 Mr Ackroyd offered to build a Chapel at his own expense, the foundation stone of which was laid by Master John William Rawson on the 6 day of April and opened for Worship on the 28 day of October by the Rev James Parsons of York

At the recommendation of the Rev Mr Wilson of London, Mr Craig came to Deanon the 21st day of November of the same year and after preaching four Sundays the unanimous invitation of the seatholders was given to him to become the Pastor of the Congregation which he accepted.

The rents of the seats being fixed by Mr Ackroyd at threepence per sitting to meet the incidental expenses of worship the salary of the Minister was..."
