"At the request of several inhabitants of the Parish, evening services were commenced by Mr Thomas Milligan in the large room of the Rectory Farm house; the attendance was so numerous that Wm Ackroyd Esq of The Grange offered to fit up the grainary (no longer required for the purposes of the farm) as a temporary Chapel, which was opened for public worship by the Rev M Woolmer Weslyan Minister of the Higham Ferrers circuit in October 1861
The sunday school which had hitherto been held at the house of Mr Peck was also transferred thither and the week evening service was changed to the Sunday evening; the attendance there increased so much that the Building was found to be too small to accomodate all who wished for admittance"
