Peartree Cottage

1960s view

The outbuilding on the right is reputed to have been the location for the school until 1876 when the new school building in School Lane (now Aylott close) was ready.

Compare this with the 1999 view.

Writing about the early years of this century, CLFD writes: Later this [a tinker's business run from the School House, Shelton Road] was taken over by William Barwell who lived in Peartree Cottage and he added a tank of paraffin for sale, slung under the trolley- he finally invested in a motor lorry. His horse was rough and unattractive and trotted in a sleepy fashion at not much more than walking pace and whenver he stopped it seemed to go to sleep.
