| According to CLFD a mill was built on that site in 1620. This mill dated from 1856. It was last used in 1918, and fell down - or was pulled down - in 1950s.
The mill was built and for a long time owned by the Bradshaw Family, many of whom are buried in Dean churchyard. The last miller was Isaac Shadbolt, who worked it until 1918 and died in 1921. Several of the older villagers remember his son, Billy Shadbolt, who lived in a cottage (since demolished) in Lower Dean, and who died in 1944.
An article on the mill appears in Bedfordshire Magazine, Vol 1 |
