 Stodden Passion Play Minimize

Each Good Friday morning, the Passion according to St. Matthew is enacted along Park Road in Melchbourne.    The "actors", all people living in the six Stodden villages, wear their ordinary clothes bringing the story into the present. The play starts outside the village hall with the Last Supper and moves along the road enacting each scene in different gardens and drive ways.    The play ends with Golgotha in the Church.     Over 90 people watch the play making it the largest regular event in the Stodden group.

Welcome to Stodden Church's Website Minimize

The Stodden Churches comprise a group of six parishes in the northern tip of Bedfordshire, in the villages of Dean, Melchbourne, Pertenhall, Shelton, Swineshead and Yelden. The total population of the six villages is about 1,200 people. Each of the parishes has a grade 1 listed church, five of which are Norman. The exception is Melchbourne where the church is Georgian.

The Stodden Parishes are part of the Sharnbrook Deanery within the diocese of St. Albans . Each of the Stodden parishes is independent . They have delegated all matters relating to worship, ministry and mission to a Joint Parochial Church Council on which each parish is represented. The individual parishes, through their own Parochial Church Councils, have responsibility for the maintenance of the church buildings and grounds.

Regular services are held at all six churches. There are a variety of service styles to suit different tastes. Visitors are very welcome at all services. For details of services please see the "Services" page.
